Normally I just tell people to upgrade to gold membership [as soon as they earn $12 at GAF] and the reason is that gold members can place bids on 150+ projects. Actually this [150+ number] is not the exact amount of bids that one gets after he or she upgrades to gold membership.
In this post, I will tell you the exact amount of bids that you can place.
Possibility number one:
[You have just joined GAF and this is your first month, and you have not completed any job, that is: you do not have any ratings]:
If you are a new member at GAF and you have not completed any project. Then if you upgrade to gold member then you will get 150 + 15 bids that you will be able to place on 150 different jobs at GAF.
Possibility number two:
[You are a one month [or more than one month] old member but you have not completed any job that is: you do not have any ratings]:
In this case, you will have the basic amount of bids [which is 150 + 15 bids] plus after every one month of your member ship at freelance site, you will get one extra bid. For example:
If you are two months old member [after 60 days of member ship] [type of member ship does not count when we calculate the duration of a person being member at GAF. For calculating this duration, it does not matter if you were a gold member or normal member in these 60 days], then you will have,
150 + 2 + 15 = 167 bids
Another example:
If you are one year old member [after 360 days of member ship] [type of member ship does not count when we calculate the duration of a person being member at GAF. For calculating this duration, it does not matter if you were a gold member or normal member in these 360 days], then you will have,
150 + 12 + 15 = 177
Possibility number three:
[You are a one month or more than one month old member and you have completed jobs at GAF. That is: you do have ratings at GAF]:
Then you will have the basic 150 + 15 bids plus the per month bid increment plus the bids which are equal to the number of ratings that you will have at GAF.
For example:
If you are two years old member and you have completed 150 online jobs at GAF [that is: you have 150 ratings], then you will have,
150 + 15 + 24 + 150 = 339 bids to place on different projects.
