Copywriting jobs pay much more than what you can earn via doing data entry jobs. In fact, copywriting jobs are one of the highest paying jobs that a person can get at freelance sites.
On other hand, data entry is a category of jobs where you can earn the lowest possible money. Yes, that is true: data entry work do not pay good money.
Data Entry:
There are many jobs in the data entry category. For example: the simplest work that we can get is typing content from PDF files into word documents. Other jobs include: internet researching, copy/pasting data from one source to anther etc.
Thus, the data entry category is the one where we can find the simplest/easiest work to do. No skills or experience is needed: but unfortunately, we cannot earn good money via doing this kind of work.
Some data entry jobs even pay just few cents for an hour work.
I suggest you do not get disappointed: there are a number of data entry projects where we can earn ok amount of money. We just need to find the right project at the right time.
Copywriting Jobs:
Nowadays, more and more people want to build a website for themselves. Many people hire programmers to make a site for them and then they hire a writer who can write all the content for them.
Content writing is in demand these days. A person with XX amount of freelance ratings can easily earn $5 for writing a 500 words article.
There are some projects where buyers need quality work and they are willing to pay good money. You can even earn $20+ for writing quality 300 or so words article/content.
Which Job To choose?
Obviously, if you are capable of writing good content in English, then you should choose copywriting field. But in case your English writing skills are not very impressive, then I guess you will have to choose the data entry field.

January 7, 2010 12:15 pmsirs, i am profusely thankful to u for such a great article for the needy people like me.i am a retired senior fm India and hiv+ and badly in need of money to meet my expenses for a healthy living. so, i see u as Godsend’!thou’ i have fair knowledge of English i am doubtful about my language to go for copywriting. i prefer data entry but i have no idea how to do. my humble suggestion is you add the sites which give coaching on copywriting/data entry etc which would of great help to the needy people. i find some sites offer jobs like copypaste, adposting etc. But i dont find about these in yr article. are they scams? thank u

You will not pay any money from your pocket to get online jobs at these sites so there is no need to worry about any scams.
