GAF has posted an important news in their site. This news is related to the withdrawals done for service providers who live in India.
The money which GAF recently sent to users in India was sent back to GAF. PayPal has stopped personal payments to or from India. So it means that currently, no one can send any money to India via personal transaction and same goes for anyone who wish to send money from India to somewhere else.
Personal transactions are simple payments in which buying/selling of goods/services is not involved. For example: sending some money as a Gift can be considered as a personal transaction.
Now, there is thing to note here: PayPal stated that people in India can still use PP to get/give money for buying/selling goods or services and the money which GAF sent to its users is paying cash for services offered by these users in the form of doing online jobs for the buyers.
GAF has stated that they believe that their transactions come under the category of a business transaction instead of personal transaction. GAF has contacted PP about this issue so we can expect to see an update on this matter soon.
I think that PP may allow GAF to make the payments but that is just what I think. Let’s wait and see what PP will decide.
It looks like this halt of payments to India using PP is only temporary and that the payments made by freelance sites may get allowed anytime soon: but still, it is advised by GAF to get a MoneyBookers account just as a backup.
