Recently, Matt Cutts started a discussion at Google Moderator. About 199 questions were asked. One of the top rated questions was about: Google putting more weight on brands in search ranking.
On 10th of March, 2009, Matt Cutts made a post where he included three video links. One of these videos contained the answer to the above mentioned question.
Matt Cutts said that: at Google, people do not use the term Brands. Instead of this word, they use words like: Trust, Authority, Reputation, PR, and Quality.
Matt Cutts said that, Google always try to include high quality pages in search results.
These high quality pages can be from some brands or from other sites.
Then he said that: Yes, Google has made a change recently. This change is related to how Google rank sites.
Matt Cutts said that, it’s a small change and not a Google algorithm update. There are about 400 changes in Google way of ranking sites, every year.
This change will only effect small number of queries.
Matt Cutts said that, most people [who use Google] have not even noticed this change. This may suggests that only few queries will return results with this change applied.
