Once you make up your mind and decide that you want to choose accountancy as your career, the next step would be to decide which path to choose leading you to become a qualified accountant. Depending on which geographical area are you ling in, you can opt for studying towards becoming a member of your country’s local body of chartered accountants.
For example if you are in the UK, then ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales) is the local membership body and once you get the membership, you will become a qualified accountant. Same is the case in other countries where there is a local body of accountants and you can work towards becoming a member of it.
In my personal opinion, there is another option of becoming a qualified accountant and getting the membership of an accountancy body which is not only recognized all over the world but is also seen as a valuable body. I am talking about ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) which is based in the UK but as I said before, it is a globally recognized membership body and has its offices throughout the world.
As a matter of fact, a large number of ACCA students, Affiliates and members are from Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, India and Pakistan. The good thing about it is that you do not need to relocate in order to become an ACCA member as ACCA exams are held throughout the world so wherever you are in the world, you can sit for your ACCA exams in your country.
ACCA has not set tough barriers for registration and literally anyone can register with it but this does not mean that all of them will eventually become ACCA members. ACCA believes that every one should get a chance to enter for its exams and the exams itself is plays the role of a filter where only those who deserve will stay while the rest leave.
So it is a good idea to give chance to every one and let them take the exams, and only those who deserve, will be able to make it to the end.
