Boom Boom Afridi’s fans were delighted to hear that PCB has announced him as the T20 Pakistani team captain. The T20 world cup will start very soon: let’s see if Pakistan can defend their world champion’s title this year in the captaincy of Afridi : )
In the beginning of the month March, PCB announced the squad for T20 cup without a captain…
Then around 23rd of March, 2010, PCB finally announced that Afridi will be the captain.
I personally am quite happy about this decision as I think he was the best choice/option.
Why was Afridi removed from the captaincy in the first place?
Unfortunately, in one of the matches against Australia [I think the last match in Pakistan tour to Australia], Afridi was caught red-handedly for doing ball tempering.
He was caught on tape when he tried to bite the ball multiple times. I wrote about that incident few months back and also posted a picture of Afridi biting the ball : )
Anyway: for that ball tempering attempt, first, ICC banned him from two T20 matches. Then PCB also gave him a punishment in the form of a Rs. 35 lakh fine.
Before this event, Afridi was clearly a stable/permanent captain for Pakistani T20 team and was also favorable for ODI team captain too.
But then things changed: PCB announced the squad without a captain. It was then clear that PCB is not happy at what Afridi did in that match against Australia.
Anyway, in the end, PCB declared him as the captain. Now let’s see how the team will perform in the upcoming mega event.
