How to change Username/Login in WordPress?

Do you wish to change your Username in WordPress?

The username which is used to login in the Admin Panel?

If you login in your admin panel and click on Howdy, Administrator and then click on Your Profile: here you can change few things But Not the username that is used to login.

In front of the username box you will see this:

Usernames cannot be changed

For some reason, I had to change my username but was disappointed to read the above mentioned message. Anyway, I searched the internet to find a solution.

Someone suggested to add a NEW USER. We can choose the required username for this new user.

I tried to do this but faced some issues like: we cannot use the same email for the second user. Also, I failed to delete the first user who’s username I wanted to change. So in the end I had Two Users one of which was the new user with my desired username: but this is not what I want.

In simple words: I do not want to add a New User: and I do not want to delete the primary user: I just need to change the username.

Finally I found the solution.

[Make a Back-Up]

Open PHPmyAdmin: select your database. Now click on:

wp_users

Here I see one Row because I have just one user in my blog.

Click on Edit:

Now in front of this label: user_login

You will see a Box and it will contain your current username. Simply remove the old value and enter the desired username and then click on Go.

Now you can login with the New Username. In your profile the New username will be shown.
