Few versions back, Firefox introduced a new feature, Out of Process Plugin, which is supposed to protect Firefox from freezing up in case a Plugin creates a stability problem. This feature is added to increase the Reliability of the browser.
It makes user work more stable. It is supposed to save the browser from hanging up on users which may result in losing valuable user’s data.
What this feature does is that it runs some plugins in separate processes. So in case a plugin stop responding, the browser can still work as it is a separate process. The unresponsive plugins are restarted by Firefox in case they are halt.
Does this feature really helps?
I update Firefox whenever an update is available and I use Firefox every day for several hours. In the early release, I was quite unhappy as this feature was not working very well for me. I started to see the OOPP error a lot and as far as I remember, I had to restart Firefox to get it working properly. Then later on, I finally decided to disable this Feature.
Now after several months of Firefox release With this feature, I still have this Feature disabled. I am not sure what the problem was, but for me, this feature was not working very well. May be there was some issue with it in the early releases? And now this feature is working fine?
I personally have not yet enabled this feature again as things are working fine for me without it.
